Martin Trophy 2021-22

The Martin Trophy is awarded for the best individual performance in inter-club matches over the season (July 2021 - June 2022). Players must play at least ten games in league, cup or friendly matches for their score to count. Statistics are calculated for everyone who has played a match for the club. Thank you to Derek Hadley for calculating the Martin Trophy standings.

Nine players took part in this tournament, which was run in two groups.

Group A qualifiers were Victor Luo and Tony Packham (from PACKHAM, Tony; BENNETT, Delroy; UCELNIECE, Ludmila; LUO, Victor; JEFFERIES, Tyrone)
Group B qualifiers were Paul Chantrell and Ben Jaminoh (from JAMINOH, Ben; CHANTRELL, Paul; GRIFFIN, Joshua; KIEDROWSKI, Jacek)

Semi-finals LUO 1-0 JAMINOH; CHANTRELL 1-0 PACKHAM

Club Championship Tournaments 2021-22

All games to be completed by 30 June 2022. Rate of play: 75 minutes + 15 second increment per move, or if incrementing clocks not available, 30 moves in 75 minutes + 15 minutes quickplay finish. Starting numbers have been determined by random draw. The Trophy in each section will be awarded to the player with the highest point score. Please note that points scored against players completing fewer than half their games are ineligble for detemining placings, though all games played will be rated. In case of a tie, the Sonneborn-Berger system will be used for tiebreaking.

Club Champion's Simultaneous Display

Congratulations to Jason who scored 7 - 1 in this year's simul. Full scores to follow. Paul Chantrell was the winner of the McGovern Trophy 2021, for best game against the club champion.

 

Shapson Lightning Tournament, Tuesday 14 September 2021

It was great to be back!

Nine players took part in our first over the board club event in eighteen months. The winner of our traditional 10 second a move lightning tournament was Michael Brown with Jason Rihel second and Paul Chantrell third.

Congratulations to Michael, Shapson Trophy winner 2021. The trophy will be presented, along with the trophies outstanding from the 2019-20 season, at the club's autumn general meeting on 21 September.

Thank you to Tyrone and Tony for running the tournament.

Christmas Tournament, Tuesday 17 December 2019

Twelve players took part in our annual tournament at odds and enjoyed the traditional Christmas buffet. The tournament was won by guest player Alex Cherniack, who receives a 12 month Chessable Pro subscription, kindly donated by

Summer 2020 - the GLCC club championship continues with games played online and under conditions of social distancing. Nigel Blades and Jason Rihel played their Bernfield game in the garden at Nigel's house on a Sunday afternoon. In a tense three hour game Jason came out the winner, leaving both players on 3/4 with one game each to play.
